A Word From Our Winemaker
Greetings, Mumm Napa family!
It’s a beautiful time of year in the Napa Valley. The vineyards are carpeted with lush, green cover crops. The mustard is blooming in all its yellow glory, and there’s a certain tranquility in the air. Soon it will be budbreak, signaling the start of spring, but for now, we enjoy the quiet. In the cellar, we’re preparing blends for bottling and—believe it or not—planning ahead for the next harvest. It’ll be here before we know it.
I love hosting dinners with friends this time of year. It seems we can enjoy a little more time together before rushing off to the next activity, as often happens during summer and the holidays. One of my favorite traditions for this time of year is inviting friends for a crab feed, passing bowls of cracked and chilled fresh Dungeness from the coast along with salad, pasta, and garlic bread. I’ll be pouring the gorgeous new Oak Knoll Brut alongside my crab, its bright fruit making me think of warmer days ahead.
Along with your wines, we’ve tucked in a Valentine’s treat—a Demi-Sec Milk Chocolate Himalayan Salted Caramel bar from Anette’s Chocolates here in Napa. Having grown up in Napa, I’ve been going to Anette’s since they opened over 30 years ago, and I’m happy we can share a little local sweetness with all of you.
