Mumm Sparkling wines are made from grapes sourced from high-quality sparkling wine regions throughout the state of California. These wines are made in the méthode traditionnelle (traditional method), which is the same method used to make sparkling wines in Champagne. This specialized process imparts toasty notes and creamy texture to complement the fruit-forward style of these wines that’s well-suited to spontaneous everyday celebrations or mixing into cocktails.
Mumm Napa wines are a true expression of Napa, which can be tasted in the ripe fruit flavors and creamy texture typical of the Mumm Napa style. These wines spend an average of two years aging on the lees as part of the méthode traditionnelle sparkling winemaking process, giving them extra complexity, toastier flavors and creamier texture. These special wines elevate meals with friends or add extra sparkle to celebratory occasions.
Mumm Napa and Mumm Sparkling wines are made using an intricate process called Méthode Traditionnelle—the same time-honored approach used to make French Champagnes. Read more about our winemaking here.
Our Mumm Sparkling wines highlight some of the best sparkling wine regions in California, which come through in bold fruit flavors and subtle notes of marzipan and toast.
Our Mumm Napa wines are a true reflection of its Napa home, ripe with fruit flavors and a creamy texture, however each wine offers a little something different based on the grapes that go into it and the time it spends aging on the lees.

Sparkling wines can be stored either upright or on their sides. Still wines should be stored on their sides to keep the cork moist.
We recommend storing our wines around 55°F for best quality, but the most important part of wine storage is avoiding too much temperature fluctuation, so wherever you store your bottles, try to keep the temperature consistent and ideally below 70°F.
This will vary depending on the wines. Our core wines generally taste their best within a year or two, but our Reserve wines can often age 5 to 10 years or even longer. Recommended aging is listed in the tasting notes for specific wines.

We call Mumm Sparkling and Mumm Napa “sparkling wine” because they are made in California, but the production process and ingredients are the same used to create the best French Champagnes. Both are crafted using méthode traditionnelle, or traditional method winemaking. The name Champagne simply refers to traditional method sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France.
Some of the most common types include Extra-Brut (very dry), Brut (dry), Brut Rosé (dry and pink), Blanc de Blancs (dry and white), Sec (lightly sweet), and Demi-Sec (sweet). Most Mumm Napa wines are Brut style, but we have a winery-exclusive Demi-Sec, Sec, Cuvée M and Cuvée M Red.
Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier are the traditional sparkling wine grape varietals used to varying degrees depending on the style. At Mumm Napa, we sometimes add a little bit of Pinot Gris, a local favorite for a unique California twist on our heritage.
Once you remove the foil and the cage, put one hand firmly on the cork to steady it and the other on the base of the bottle. While keeping the bottle pointed in a safe direction, slowly twist the bottle, not the cork. As the base twists, you should feel the cork loosen, until the eventual pop of success. Done correctly, there shouldn’t be any “shooting” or spillage.
It’s best when chilled—think 40 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit, achieved by 30 minutes in ice water or 3 hours in the refrigerator—and poured into a flute or white wine glass. A flute helps preserve the bubbles, while a white wine glass offers a little more breathing room and can open up some beautiful aromas. Pour a small amount into the glass and let it settle before filling the glass three-quarters full. If it’s hot out, lower your pour level to ensure every sip stays at a cooler temperature.
