By coveting the exceptional quality grapes from Napa and pairing them with the right growers, Mumm Napa’s wines are completely distinct.
Mumm Napa has been sourcing grapes from Devaux Ranch Vineyard in the Carneros Region of Napa Valley since 1991. Located on the southern tip of Napa in the Carneros AVA, the vineyard's 110 acres is planted with the same three varietals that make French Champagne - Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
Considered by many one of the most beautiful vineyards in Napa Valley, this estate-grown site is named after Mumm Napa's founding Winemaker, Guy Devaux. Guy was a pioneer of Méthode Traditionnelle sparkling wines, and Devaux Ranch is symbolic for creating his ultimate Brut, blend of 58% Pinot Noir, 28% Chardonnay, 8% Pinot Meunier and 6% Pinot Gris.
Each year, our Winemakers honor this vineyard site and visionary founding winemaker Guy Devaux by crafting a vintage-dated Devaux Ranch Cuvée using the most pristine grapes from each harvest. Devaux Ranch Cuvée is traditionally a Club Vivant member-exclusive release.
Rich soil, strong vines and distinct grape varietals are the definition of a great terroir, and Devaux Ranch is how Mumm crafts high-quality sparkling wines.
Today, Mumm Napa works with more than fifty growers at each harvest. The variety in our grape sources allows us to make consistent sparkling wine every year. But more than simply the variety, it's the quality of the fruit the farmers bring to Mumm Napa - a quality that stems from the passion they have for their work.
As Manager of Grower Relations at Mumm Napa, you'll find Doug Springer walking the vineyards and checking the grapes. Doug works lockstep with Winemaker Ludovic Dervin to source the best grapes for our sparkling wines at our estate-grown Devaux Ranch and at more than fifty other vineyard sites. He has been been working with grape farmers in Napa and Sonoma for nearly two decades. "Partnering with growers that have the same values as Mumm Napa is key," Doug says.
"The formula is really quite simple: sustainable farming with a commitment to the land and the quality of the fruit." Doug knows that building a fruitful partnership between Mumm Napa and the many farmers only comes from a mutual understanding.
Many of Mumm Napa growers are multi-generational Napa Valley farmers with a deep-rooted connection to the land.
"At Mumm Napa, we like to work with people who are as passionate about farming as we are about making wine. Heritage is everything to our Growers." - Ludovic Dervin.
"This year, 2014, will be my family's 111th harvest in Napa Valley. No one truly owns the land; we are all just stewards of the soil." - Andy Hoxsey, Napa Valley Grower
"Mumm Napa makes a great product that really represents our hard work in the vineyards. It is important to pick the right winery partner to ensure that our great quality fruit is being made into a great quality wine." - Gianciarlo Bettinelli, Napa Valley Grower
