A Stylish Blend
2017 Blanc de Blancs Grower Series
In 2017, we selected an elegant Chardonnay from Sunset Vineyard in Carneros. Raymond and Mary Beth Reyes first signed a planting contract with our founder Guy Devaux in 1989, and their vines have been producing beautiful, expressive fruit for our cuvees ever since.
This wine has a beautiful elegance. The nose shows dominant notes of ripe Meyer lemon and toasted brioche, complemented by a Fuji apple sweetness and hints of golden raspberry and toasted hazelnut. It opens with a delicate mousse and bright, yet balanced acidity. Flavors of citrus, apple, and toasted bread lead into a long and graceful finish.
We take pride in our long-standing relationships with our growers, and love that we can share that pride with you through the Grower Series wines. Because the vineyard is in a cooler location, it’s always one of last sites that we pick. That long hangtime allows for development of rich citrus and apple flavors typical of Carneros Chardonnay. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks highlights the bright fruit aromas, and aging for three years on the yeast brings complexity and toastiness. We chose a lower dosage for this wine to really let the fruit shine.
This delicate and elegant wine would pair best with lighter fare. Oysters would be a classic match, as would halibut. It would also be delicious with a quiche packed with fresh spring herbs and a bit of goat cheese.
