Our 2013 Blanc de Noirs, which means “white of blacks” in French, is made of 100% Pinot Noir. As opposed to making red wine from Pinot Noir grapes, where the color comes from contact with the skins during fermentation, these red Pinot Noir grapes go direct to the press to carefully extract the juice from the skins, producing a white wine.
The 2013 vintage delivered high-quality Pinot Noir fruit with incredible structure. The rich soils and healthy vines produced grapes with excellent flavor concentration. The majority of the fruit was sourced from vineyards along Big Ranch Road in Napa. The grapes were picked by hand at night and during the cool morning hours to ensure they arrived at the winery in pristine condition. 10% of this inaugural blend was fermented in oak to add depth, complexity and spiciness to the blend. After blending and bottling, the wine was aged on the yeast for 36 months to allow for the development of toasty yeast character that complements the fruit profile.
This Blanc de Noirs has elegant mineral, red apple, quince, and biscuit notes on the nose, with hints of vanilla, nectarine, and mandarin. The palate is rich and creamy with excellent structure and a long finish dominated by notes of toasted bread, strawberry, and raspberry. Pair this wine with halibut ceviche or bagels and lox for a sumptuous brunch with friends.
